Summary and scope of position

To assist the Web Communications Manager in improving content on Bates College’s core Web site. His/Her primary duties will be to work effectively with clients to evaluate and update existing content, publish new content, and respond to reports of bugs, problems, or irregularities, from broken links to poor spelling.

He/She will collaborate with clients of all levels of technological expertise from many offices around the Bates College campus, managing tasks from initial contact through resolution. He/She will proactively and regularly communicate task status with clients and the Web Communications Manager.

He/She will be required to learn and implement Bates core site standards, including architecture, structure, grammar, and presentation styles. A keen eye for irregularities is required.

He/She must be friendly and outgoing; a professional attitude is required. He/She will be expected to train others, and provide second-tier support. (The ILS Help Desk provides first-tier support.)

This position is vital to supporting Bates College’s public communications strategy.

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills)

Required

  • Excellence in English grammar and spelling
  • Knowledge of Web standards, best practices, and basic structural markup
  • Cross-platform and cross-browser experience
  • Mastery of office productivity software
  • Basic photo editing skills (cropping, sizing, filters)
  • Experience managing tasks independently
  • Ability to keep clients satisfied with quality of work
  • Friendly attitude and people skills
  • Attention to detail

Desired Experience

  • Web navigation and information architecture
  • Web publishing tools and systems
  • Photography and multimedia tools
  • Knowledge of Associated Press style book
